Stephen H. Smith

Stephen was born in Providence, Rhode Island and admitted to the Bar of the State of California as well as the United States District Court for the Central District in 1981. Stephen obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Georgetown University in 1978 and his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University in 1981. He worked on the personal staff of U.S. Senator Henry M. Jackson.

Stephen's practice, in addition to the defense of general products liability matters and catastrophic personal injury litigation, is focused upon defending fitness equipment manufacturers and claims of sports-related injuries. His practice is also centered upon complex litigation, including the defense of class actions, toxic torts and environmental claims, the defense of governmental entities, business and commercial litigation and on fire and petrochemical litigation. He has tried numerous cases to verdict and has served as counsel of record in litigation in more than fifteen states. He is a member of the Los Angeles County and American Bar Associations, the State Bar of California, the Defense Research Institute (DRI), Association of Southern California Defense Counsel (ASCDC), the Sports and Fitness Industry Association’s Legal Task Force, and the American Board of trial Advocates (ABOTA). He serves as an arbitrator for the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
